Kenya Simbas suffered their fifth Currie Cup loss after they went down 24-7 to the South Western Districts Eagles.

The simbas went ahead through Timothy Omela with Dominic Coulson adding the extra twos before putting up a brilliant defensive show to keep the Eagles who were enjoying possession at bay as the game strayed into the quarter hour mark.

The pouring skies slowed matters down a gear but it was the Eagles who continued enjoying possession as Kenya Simbas’s resolute defence kept showing.

The Simbas were then dealt a blow, losing Joseph Odero to the sin bin after being found guilty of a high tackle.

The home team’s persistent knocking bore fruits a minute shy the half hour as they powered over a maul from close range  to cut the deficit to two points. Scores now 7-5.

Dominic Coulson missed two penalties and the two points separated the two as the referee sent the game into the breather.

The Eagles scored first in the second period, a kick behind the line catching the Simbas defence off guard. The resulting conversion bounced off the uprights to make matters 10-7.

Eagles would score twice, one coming late in the match to finish off the Simbas who seemed to have run out of gas and could not pile pressure on defence. Full time scores 24-7.

The loss marked the Simbas last game in South Africa and attention will now shift to the remaining matches, against Leopards and Eastern Privince Elephants which will be played in Kenya.
