KCB, Kabras Homeboyz and Daystar win Christie 7s openers

Christie 7s defending Champions KCB Rugby, former Champions Kabras RFC, Host Kenya Harlequin, Mwamba Rugby Club and Strathmore Leos won their openers in the matches played at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday morning.

Daystar Falcons, Homeboyz and Menengai Oilers also picked wins in their first matches.  The winners of each Pool have three points while losers have a point each.

Homeboyz scored 28 points in the first half and 21 points in the first half to register the biggest win of the opening round. The Deejays got a 49-10 win over Kabeberi 7s division II Champions Catholic Monks.

Mwamba Rugby Club won 25-5 against Western Bulls in the second last match of the first round.

Pool C

2016 and 2017 Christie 7s Champions Kabras RFC commenced the chase with a narrow 14-12 win over their neighbours MMUST Rugby Club in a Lurambi Derby.

All the four tries in the match were scored in the first half with Kabras converting their two tries to edge the students.

Flavian Atiyo scored the opening try for the Sugarmen and it was converted by Keith Embwaga.  Embwaga also converted Malik Habil’s try and it was his two conversions that made the difference.

Veron Kaburu and Claus Shirievo scored MMUST tries.

Menengai Oilers also started off impressively as they beat Nondies 19-7. Oilers took 12-0 lead to the break while in the final half, they got one try each .

Pool B

Daystar Falcons kicked off their campaign on a brighter note beating Blak Blad 21-5.  Speedster Patrick Odongo bagged a brace with John Oliele adding the extras for a 14-0 at half time break.

Floyd Wabwire scored the final try of the game which was converted for a 21-5 win.

Last weekend’s finalists Strathmore Leos whipped Impala 36-0. They were the first side to register a cleansheet in the competition.

Pool A

Hosts Kenya Harlequin kicked off their campaign with a 26-12 win over Nakuru RFC in a Pool A match played on Saturday morning.

They were joined on the winning list by Defending Champions KCB Rugby who defeated Jumia Pay Pirates 32-7. It is KCB’s seventh straight win in the 2022  National 7s Circuit campaign.
