KCB Rugby are the 2022 Kabeberi 7s Champions after quelling Strathmore Leos second-half comeback to get a 12-10 win in a final at RFUEA Grounds.
The bankers were quick off the blocks and they bagged a converted try for a 7-0 lead. Bob Muhati crossed the whitewash for that opening try. Levy Amunga knocked in a conversion for a slim lead.
Jacob Ojee who has enjoyed a scoring run in the tournament landed the second try for a 12-0 lead for Dennis Mwanja’s side. The winger who was put through by Michael Wanjala on the right-wing rounded his markers and scored the try. The two tries saw the bankers take a 12-0 lead to the break.
Louis Kisia halftime talk seemed to have worked magic as his side came back stronger from the break. First, it was Joseph Ayiro who pulled back following a well-timed kick which he chased and claimed to land their opening try.
Strathmore would score the second try of the match but a missed conversion saw them fall short by just a point.
Menengai Oilers claimed the bronze medal after a 26-5 win against Homeboyz in the third-place playoffs.
Mwamba finished fifth in their home tournament after defeating MMUST Rugby Club 24-5 in the fifth-place playoffs. Mwamba landed three tries and converted two for a 19-0 halftime lead. In the final half, both sides scored two tries each for a 24-5.
Kenya Harlequin won the Challenge Trophy following a solitary converted try over Blak Blad while Nondies finished 13th after a 14-12 win over Impala.
