Strathmore Leos have won the 2022 Embu 7s after defeating 2019 winners Menengai Oilers 19-12 in a final at Njukiri Showgrounds.
Leos bagged the first try of the game through Brunson Madigu and it was converted for a 7-0 lead. Oilers pulled back through Steve Arunga but their conversion attempt fell short.
Strathmore stretched their lead with a try by Philemon Olang but this time around their conversion attempt missed the target. They proceeded to the break leading by seven points.

On return from the break, Amos Onyinkwa landed a try for Menengai Oilers to tie the scores at 12-12 after a conversion by Davis Nyaundi. Barnabas Owuor scored the winner which was converted for a 19-12 win.
To reach this stage, Menengai Oilers eliminated the MMUST following a 20-12 win while Strathmore Leos saw off Nakuru RFC courtesy of a long-range penalty kick in sudden death after the sides tied at fulltime.
MMUST beat Nakuru RFC 19-15 to settle for the third place while Catholic Monks defeated Blak Blad to win finish fifth. Hosts Embu RFC got the Challenge Trophy.
The event returned to the schedule having last been played in 2019. Menengai Oilers edged Nakuru RFC 14-12 to win the title. Its two-year absence was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which impacted athletic and economic operations around the world.
The tournament is being used by clubs as a warm-up for the National Sevens Circuit which is set to kick off on 21/22 May 2022 with Kabeberi 7s at RFUEA Grounds.
