Menengai Oilers have secured a 19-8 win against their town rivals Nakuru RFC at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

The match marked the seventh Derby between the two sides, and, up until then, neither team had experienced a loss at home, with three wins apiece.

However, Menengai Oilers stood tall in this encounter, breaking the trend and handing Wanyore their first home derby defeat.

Nakuru RFC were first to make a statement on the board with a three-point courtesy of Philip Okeyo’s drop goal to tally the scores 3-0 before Alvin Khavoli made the first-line break of the derby for the Oilers to set a lead of 5-3 after a missed conversion.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Kenya International Beldad Ogeta made his seventh season try as he stretched the lead for the visitor.  Abukuse Dennis conversion saw the board read 12-3 before halftime.

In the first minutes of the second half, Emmanuel Mula managed a try for the Oilers to extend their lead 19-3 after a successful conversion by Abukuse.

Nakuru pulled back through Chrisant Ojwang  after a strong run from the Oilers 22 to reduce the gap 19-8 but time being a factor it marked the full-time score.

Oilers join Kabras RFC, KCB Rugby, Kenya Harlequin on the list of unbeaten sides with 100% win record this season though they missed a bonus point.
