Uganda Rugby Premiership champions Heathens RFC have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season after confirming the signing of lock Andrew Okello from Jinja Hippos RFC.

The towering second-row forward becomes the club’s latest acquisition during the transfer window, joining fellow former Hippos player Andrew Odhiambo, who was unveiled by the Yellow Machine earlier.

Announcing the move, Heathens welcomed the powerful lock with a message highlighting the qualities he is expected to bring to the forwards.

“WELCOME TO THE YELLOW MACHINE! We’re proud to welcome Andrew ‘Thanos’ Okello from Jinja Hippos RFC. A commanding lock with strength, grit, and presence, Andrew is set to add power to the Heathens pack. Welcome mate!”

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Okello arrives with a reputation as a physical and industrious forward, attributes that have earned him the nickname “Thanos.” His addition is expected to bolster Heathens’ lineout options and add muscle to the pack as the club looks to chase domestic honours while competing on multiple fronts.

His move follows the recent capture of Kenya-born back-rower Andrew Odhiambo, who also made the switch from KOBS. Odhiambo, popularly known as “Top Boy,” was unveiled shortly after the transfer window closed, with Heathens describing his arrival as another key piece in their squad rebuild.

Odhiambo began his Ugandan Premiership career with Hippos, where he established himself as one of the league’s standout performers and finished as the competition’s top scorer before earning a move to KOBS .

The arrival of both Okello and Odhiambo underlines Heathens’ intent to reinforce their squad with proven Premiership talent as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
