Kenya Cup champions Kabras RFC are set to make several additions to their squad following December-January transfer window.
Among the new faces at the forest are former Mwamba RFC utility back Mike Okello and Catholic Monks playmaker Samuel Omollo.
Why Okello and Omollo
Kabras Chairman Edwin Esilaba stated that the addition of Okello is aimed at strengthening the forwards department, with William Mwanji and Kevin Wekesa occupied with national team commitments for Kenya Sevens.
“Okello’s inclusion is primarily to reinforce the forwards, as Mwanji and Wekesa are engaged with Kenya 7s duties, while Brian Tonya is tied up with work commitments.
“Sam is also brought in to reinforce the 10 and 15 positions, with Kubu potentially joining the 7s squad, and Eric Cantona having similar work commitments,” he told Scrummage Africa.
Okello, who was a standout performer in the 2019 National 7s Circuit, won the Prinsloo 7s and Kabeberi 7s titles and has also featured for Samurai and Shujaa in the Safari 7s.
His rugby journey began after transitioning from football, where he was a goalkeeper at St. Joseph Mumias High School. He later joined MKU Stingers, helping them win the 2016 Nakuru 10s Division 2 title and finish as runners-up in 2017.

Omollo, on the other hand, has enjoyed a stellar stint at CUEA, where he has consistently topped the club’s scoring charts.
His reliable kicking ability saw him score over 70 points last season, finishing just behind Ntabeni Dukisa in the scoring standings.

Omollo’s arrival is expected to strengthen Kabras’ backline, providing additional depth at fly-half and full-back, positions already filled by the likes of Kubu, Barry Robinson, Cantona, and Dukisa.
Omollo also featured for the Buffaloes during the 2024 Rugby Super Series campaign, further bolstering his experience and credentials.
Kabras are expected to make a back row addition to their squad this January.
