Dennis Abukuse scored 21 points as Menengai Oilers defeated Kisumu RFC 48-7 in a match played at Moi Showgrounds, Nakuru.
Menengai Oilers were first on scoreboard courtesy of Kenyan International John Okoth. Dennis Abukuse converted Okoth’s try to give his side an early 7-0 lead.
Resilient Kisumu RFC pulled one back moments later as they went over in the corner flag. The conversion attempt by the visitors was a success. Abukuse would respond by scoring two penalty goals in quick succession to take the scores to 13-7. Chrispine Shitundo added the Oilers’ second try moments later at the back of Oliers’ powerful scrum to push the scores to 18-7.
Menengai Oilers continued to showcase their dominance as wing Beldad Ogeta touched down on their third try after he was fed the ball into space by Dennis Abukuse. A conversion attempt by Abutwalib Wesonga was a success taking the scores to 25-7.

As halftime break approached, on-form Beldad Ogeta would go over for Oilers’ fourth try. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful as the scores read 30-7 in favour of the hosts.
Early in the second half, Dennis Abukuse slotted in two penalties for a 36-7 score. Slight indiscipline forced the Oilers to play with 13 men for a couple of minutes as Destrious Ifedha and Nixon Ochieng were sent to the bin. But the Oilers would continue applying more pressure on the scoreboard. The hosts managed to add two tries in the second half through Dennis Abukuse and Andrew Odero to win the game 48-7.
Menengai Oilers will be travelling to Nairobi to face Kenya Harlequin next saturday before returning home to play Nondies at Moi Showgrounds in a fortnight.
