The KRU Championship match pitting South Coast Pirates and Western Bulls is cancelled, the Coast based side has announced.

Pirates who take part in the championship league were to play with Western Bulls in their season opener at Seacrest. However, Western Bulls have not been able to travel to the coast and have informed Pirates they won’t be able to honour the match.

South Coast Pirates revealed that they received the news through an email sent to them by Bulls. Pirates have expressed their disappointment with Bulls late communication.

“The South Coast Pirates Rugby Club expresses profound disappointment at the eleventh-hour cancellation of our eagerly anticipated first game of the season at home scheduled for today against Western Bulls RFC. The cancellation, notified to us at an extremely late hour, 3:34 am today via email, is deeply regrettable and leaves our players, staff, sponsors and loyal fans disheartened.” Read part of the clubs statement.

“We understand the unpredictable nature of the sporting environment; however, such abrupt cancellations impact the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.” continued to read the statement.

The club also lamented of the resources and time invested in the preparation of this match.

“Pirates had dedicated significant time and effort in preparation for this fixture, and the sudden cancellation disrupts not only our plans but also the overall excitement surrounding the season opener.” Said the club statement.

However, the fans will still be treated to a match as the club says they will be playing with their junior team.

“The South Coast Pirates remain committed to the spirit of rugby and will regroup to continue our season with resilience and determination. As an alternative, we have decided to proceed with a match featuring our junior team, the SC Buccaneers, ensuring that the rugby spirit continues to thrive on our grounds.” read the statement.

“We appreciate the unwavering support of our fans and sponsors and look forward to a season filled with competitive and fair matches.” Said the statement

South Coast Pirates are set to be awarded a walkover in the match.
