The Kenya Cup season kick-off is set to be postponed to December and not this November as earlier announced.

Scrummage Africa understands that the team managers have been informed that the fixtures committee has made a resolution to push the matches backwards to December to allow changes to the fixtures.

The statement sent to team managers also revealed that slight changes will also affect the dates for the Kenya Cup Women, Championship, and Nationwide matches.

“Following the latest trends and the resolution of the Fixtures Committee, the Kenya Cup Season will commence on December 2nd, 2023. This is to allow for changes to the fixtures on the Kenya Cup side, which will be shared as soon as possible. These slight changes will also affect the dates for the Kenya Cup Women, Championship, and Nationwide matches,” reads a comminique seen by Scrummage Africa.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we aim to deliver an excellent start to the Kenya Cup Season next week,” the statement concluded.

Last week, the Kenya Rugby Union unveiled the fixtures for the upcoming 2023/24 Kenya Cup season with the season to kick off on November 25, 2023.

In a departure from the previous three seasons, this edition will feature 16 matchdays, reintroducing the home-and-away format for clubs within the same pool.

The regular season was slated to run until April 2024, paving the way for playoffs, semifinals, and the final. Notably, the season was to mark the return of the Top Six playoffs, where teams ranked third to sixth after the regular season were to vie for semifinal qualification
