Koyonzo retain KSSSA National Rugby 7s title, Yala set for EA

For the second time in a row, Koyonzo High School have won the KSSSA National Rugby 7s title, this time around beating Vihiga School 22-12 in a final played at the Bull Ring in Kakamega.

The two were facing off in a repeat of the 2023 Western Region final which Koyonzo, commonly known as Stormers won 17-7.

Unbeaten in KSSSA National Rugby 7s

To retain the title, Koyonzo went on an unbeaten run from the sub-county level to book another ticket to the East African games for the second year in a row.

The Stormers stamped authority by taking a 15-7 lead to the break and despite the second half ending with just one converted try for them, the job was already done.

Joseph Jibril bagged a brace while Brandon Mulefu and Kevin Otieno who have enjoyed a good scoring run in the tournament also scored a try each.

Owen Kedera landed one try for his side while Victor Wawire had a try and conversion for Vihiga in the loss.

St Mary’s Yala have qualified for the East African games after a 40-5 win over Kitondo in the third-place playoffs. They join Koyonzo and Vihiga on the travelling list.

Bwake Boys finished fifth after a 24-7 over Bungoma High in fifth-place playoffs.
