In a thrilling showdown at the Safari Beach Hotel, the Nairobi based Karen Crusaders emerged victorious in the 2023 South Coast 5s touch rugby rugby tournament.
The 3-day event culminated in a tightly contested clash between Crusaders and Sofîre entertainment,the former emerging Victorious with a solitary try.
Crusaders humbled Dik trille 2-0, before seeing off NCBA 1-0 in the semis,while SoFire trashed Likoni men 2-1,and TUM 4-3 in the quarters and semis respectively.
The electric atmosphere at the Safari Beach Hotel saw, the players fed off the energy of the crowd, pushing themselves to the limits in pursuit of victory.
Tournament host SC pirates team manager Zuga Habrewi termed the 12 edition as a Success.
“We’ve honoured this occasion,thanks to all our sponsors and partners,the tournament has been a success because we managed to get down all the boys and used it as a preparation for the season (2023/24 KRU championship)”he said.
“The competition has also grown,this time round a team from Nairobi (Karen Crusaders)has broken our strong streak that has stretched for almost five years,so I urge the fans and community to keep coming for the event since some parts of the funds raised is used for the development of South Coast pirates rugby ” he added.
The next edition promises to be more exciting.
