Koyonzo High School have won their maiden Western Region secondary schools 7s title after a 26-5 win over Butula High School in the final staged at St Peter’s Mumias on Friday.
Both Koyonzo and Butula are heading to Nationals which is scheduled for Nakuru County. To bag their first-ever Western Region title, Koyonzo landed four tries and three conversions.
Brian Kiptanui, Darrell Omondi, Victor Wawire and Jackson Siketa crossed over for tries while Siketa added three conversions in the win. Butula had one unconverted try in the match.
Koyonzo coach Elly Okwemba lauded his boys for sticking to the plan and playing with high intensity throughout the tournament.
“The boys played according to plan and we are happy to have won our first Western Region title. The boys had proper training and they were able to push opponents to make mistakes and punished them. The boys were also able to play with high intensity all through, ” Okwemba told the Scrummage Africa.

“We are keen to do well in the Nationals and we are keen to upset the big boys with the hope of bagging our maiden title at the Nationals,” he added.
En route to the Nationals, Koyonzo who are being assisted by Borderrucks Head Coach Oscar Okaron eliminated Musingu following a 22-0 victory in the semis.
They had earlier knocked out Chavakali following a 43-14 win in the quarters.
Butula beat Mukumu 21-0 in the quarters and defeated hosts St Peters Mumias 10-7 in the semis.
