Kabras RFC’s dominance in the local rugby scene continued as they completed another domestic double, defeating Menengai Oilers 33-12 at the ASK Showground to lift the 2025 Enterprise Cup.

The Kakamega-based side has now joined Nondies as one of the few teams to achieve a five-peat in the Enterprise Cup. Kabras have also completed a double in four consecutive seasons — 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 — with three of those campaigns being unbeaten.

Kabras RFC wins

The Sugarmen had previously won the Enterprise Cup in 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, while Menengai Oilers were hunting for their maiden title in a major 15s tournament.

Kabras camped in Oilers’ half early on, with Ntabeni Dukisa’s high balls causing trouble for the Oilers’ back three. A resultant scrum saw Kabras build patiently, creating an overlap on the open side, but Griffin Chao knocked on a pass from Dukisa despite having acres of space.

Kabras suffered an early blow when Jeanson Misoga was forced off with a leg injury, paving the way for Collins Indeche to come on. Despite the setback, Kabras dominated possession and nearly led in the 21st minute, but Dukisa miscued a penalty kick, allowing Oilers to breathe. He made amends three minutes later, however, slotting in a penalty after repeated infringements by Oilers for a 3-0 lead.

A brilliant move by Dukisa allowed Bryceson Adaka to break through and release Eric Cantona, who was tackled by Samuel Ovwamu just before scoring, leading Kabras to concede a penalty.

Kabras remained camped in Oilers’ territory and finally got their breakthrough three minutes before halftime. Hillary Odhiambo broke the line and offloaded to a supporting Walter Okoth, who raced clear to score. Dukisa converted for a 10-0 lead.

Kabras stretched their lead when Barry Robinson’s long pass found Alfred Orege, who cut inside to score at the corner. Dukisa missed the conversion, leaving the scores at 15-0. Kabras could have taken a bigger lead to the break, but a forward pass from Dukisa to Orege saw the referee blow for halftime with Oilers guilty of multiple errors.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

The Sugarmen resumed strongly, winning a scrum penalty that Dukisa converted for an 18-0 lead. Oilers responded immediately after the restart, pushing Kabras back and earning a try through Beldad Ogeta, converted by Timothy Omela for an 18-7 scoreline.

Kabras hit back after a break by Eugene Sifuna, whose pass found Gabriel Adero for a centre-post try. Dukisa added the extras for a 25-7 lead.

As Oilers pushed to fight back, Chao stole possession, raced clear, and scored another try, though Dukisa missed the conversion. Oilers responded when Amos Obae set up Samuel Ovwamu for a try that went unconverted, reducing the deficit to 30-12.

Kabras absorbed late pressure and sealed the match with another penalty converted by Dukisa for a 33-12 lead. Dukisa would then boot the ball into touch to confirm yet another unbeaten season for the Sugarmen.
