Bokoli, Butula and Upper Hill among the unbeaten at KSSSA National 7s day 1

Several schools made strong starts to their campaigns by registering two victories on the opening day of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Rugby 7s Championships at Mpesa Academy.

In the boys’ competition, Newbies Bokoli enjoyed a perfect day, defeating Anjego 21-5 before overcoming All Saints 28-5 to remain unbeaten.

Upper Hill also collected two wins, edging All Saints 7-0 before seeing off Anjego 19-14 in a closely contested encounter.

Butula continued their impressive form with a convincing 33-7 win over Kamuiru before grinding out a 10-0 victory against Kwale High to complete the day with maximum points.

St. Antony were another unbeaten side after opening with a 24-0 win over Kirangari before defeating Nairobi School 14-5.

Laiser Hill produced an emphatic 38-5 victory over Tononoka in their opening match.

Elsewhere, Kirangari recovered from their opening defeat to beat Njambini 24-5, while Kamuiru bounced back from a 26-5 loss to Mutige to overcome the same opponents 22-7 in the return fixture.

In the girls’ competition, Kimobo were dominant, thrashing Muvuti 31-0 before blanking Gituamba 29-0.

Defending Champions Kinale were equally impressive, beating Gituamba 36-0 before recording the biggest win of the day, a 50-7 victory over Muvuti.

Former Champions JOGA opened with a 36-0 win against Mwatate before edging Sigoti 12-0 to remain unbeaten, while Itigo defeated Sigoti 26-0 before overcoming Mwatate 20-7.

Mbakalo also made a flying start, cruising to a 31-0 victory over Mbagathi and later taking on Karima, while Moi Forces blanked Karima 29-0 before facing Mbagathi Girls in their second outing.

Day One concluded with several teams firmly establishing themselves as early title contenders ahead of the decisive pool matches on Tuesday at Mpesa Academy.
