The Uganda Emerging 7s team is set to compete at the 36th edition of the Driftwood 7s, marking Uganda’s return to the tournament for the first time since 2013.
The fourth leg of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit will be held in Mombasa on August 22 and 23, with Uganda confirming its participation through a post on its official Uganda 7s X account.
“Show Time in Mombasa. UG Emerging 7s team will participate in the 36th edition of the Driftwood 7s set for August 22nd – 23rd 2026 in Mombasa, Kenya.”
Uganda’s return is expected to revive one of East Africa’s most notable rugby rivalries, bringing together teams from the region in a competition that has traditionally showcased both intense on-field contests and strong sporting ties off the pitch.
The tournament also highlights the role of rugby in fostering regional connections, with Uganda’s participation expected to add an East African flavour to this year’s edition as fans from both countries converge in Mombasa.

Ugandans living in Kenya have also been encouraged to turn out in large numbers to support the visiting side during the tournament.
The upcoming edition follows the participation of another Ugandan side, Ruga Ruga Select, which featured at the 2025 Christie 7s in Nairobi.
Driftwood 7s returns after KCB Rugby lifted the 2025 title, edging Strathmore Leos 15-14 in the final at the Mombasa Sports Club. Kabras RFC finished third after defeating Nakuru RFC 21-10, while Zetech Oaks claimed the Division Two title with a 10-0 victory over NYS Spades.
This year’s tournament is expected to add another chapter to the Kenya-Uganda rugby rivalry as the battle for National Sevens Circuit points continues.
