Kenya Lionesses reigned supreme in the East African derby, defeating Uganda Lady Cranes in the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Performance Division clash at RFUEA Grounds.
The Lionesses took 26 minutes to assert their dominance, racing to 22 points in an impressive attacking display.
Speedster Janet Okello broke through the defence before setting up Moreen Muritu for the opening try under the posts. Sinaida Mokaya added the conversion despite slipping during the attempt.
Uganda responded with a converted try to level the scores briefly, but Kenya quickly regained control with an unconverted try. Freshia Oduor then showcased her pace, slicing through the defence to score Kenya’s third try and hand the hosts a 17–7 lead.
The visitors had an opportunity to reduce the deficit but missed a penalty, and Kenya capitalized immediately. Debutant Tracy Montex crossed the line after being set up by Okello for another try. Uganda managed to pull back three points before halftime, but Kenya still held a comfortable advantage at the break.

In the second half, the Lionesses continued their dominance, with Faith Livoi powering over for a try, while Mokaya successfully added the conversion to extend the lead to 29–10.
Kenya pushed further into the 30-point mark following a well-executed rolling maul that saw their forwards overpower the Ugandan pack. Although Mokaya missed a penalty attempt after the ball bounced off the posts, the Lionesses quickly regained possession, and Oduor added another try, which was successfully converted.
The team will resume action on Wednesday as they continue their campaign.
