JKUAT Cougars’ meticulous rise has culminated in Kenya Cup promotion after a dominant 40-9 win over Homeboyz RFC in the KRU Championship semi-finals, sealing a historic maiden place in the top tier.

The Cougars’ journey has been one of steady growth, beginning with their participation in the inaugural Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) 7s championship before going on to lift the Impala Floodlit title in the varsity category.

That momentum carried into the KRU Championship, where they secured a direct home semi-final, suffering just one defeat all season,  against Kisii RFC.

In the decisive clash against Homeboyz, JKUAT delivered a clinical performance. Davies Masinga led the charge with two tries, while Jeff Ojuok also crossed the whitewash twice.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Karl Omitto added a try, as experienced Smith Muhoya contributed with two penalties and three conversions to cap off a commanding display.

The victory not only confirmed JKUAT’s promotion but also underlined their attacking depth and composure in high-pressure matches.

For Homeboyz RFC, the defeat means a second consecutive season in the second tier after once again falling short of promotion.

JKUAT’s achievement is even more remarkable considering they have reached the Kenya Cup just two seasons after earning promotion back to the KRU Championship, marking a rapid and well-earned ascent into the top flight of Kenyan rugby.
