The rugby fraternity is in mourning following the tragic passing of former Western Bulls player and coach Solomon Obiero, who died after a hit-and-run incident in Nairobi.

In a heartfelt club statement, Western Bulls confirmed the devastating news, describing Obiero as more than just a player, but a pillar of the club’s foundation and identity.

Obiero was a founding member of MMUST Rugby Club in 2007, the side that would later evolve into Western Bulls Rugby Club in October 2011.

He went on to coach the club, Bungoma high and African Nazarene.

“From the club’s earliest days, he wore the badge with pride, dedicating himself fully to the growth and success of the team. His loyalty to the Bulls spanned more than a decade, remaining committed to the club until the conclusion of the 2023 season,” the club stated

“Over the years, Solomon distinguished himself not only as a dependable and disciplined player but also as a natural leader. He transitioned into a player-coach role, mentoring younger teammates and helping shape the culture, values, and fighting spirit that define Western Bulls today.

At the end of the 2023 campaign, Solomon embraced a new chapter in his rugby journey, taking up the role of Head Coach at the African Nazarene University Rugby Team. There, he continued his calling, nurturing talent, instilling discipline, and spreading his deep love for the game,” the club added.

The club described him as committed, humble, and unwavering in his belief in the Western Bulls brotherhood. His influence extended far beyond the pitch, leaving an indelible mark on teammates, supporters, and the wider rugby community.

Western Bulls extended heartfelt condolences to Solomon’s family, friends, former teammates, and the entire rugby fraternity during this painful period, praying for strength and comfort in the days ahead.
