MMUST RFC are the BingwaFest 10s Western Region champions after a 19-5 win over Sigalagala RFC in the final played at Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday morning.
The match kicked off at a high intensity as both sides, Masinde Muliro University and Sigalagala Poly, were eager to claim the title and the prize money on offer.
Joshua Sudi opened the scoring for the varsity side, with Chesikor Travis adding the extras as MMUST took an early 7-0 lead. Clarence Hope later crossed the whitewash twice, with Travis successfully converting one of the tries to stretch the lead to 19-0.
Sigalagala Poly pulled one back late in the game with a try, but it was not enough to mount a comeback as MMUST held on for a 19-5 victory at full time.

In the women’s final, Mwira Rugby were in dominant form as they brushed aside Shieywe Rugby with a convincing 34-0 win in the final played earlier at the same venue.
The champions walked away with Kshs 1 million courtesy of sponsors Betika na Community, while the runners-up pocketed Kshs 500,000.
In the men’s bronze final, Webuye Rugby edged Kibabii University 15-14 to claim third place and Kshs 250,000. In the women’s bronze final, Shamberere Poly survived a late comeback to beat Blackrock Rugby 20-19.
