Pirates are the new Uganda Cup champions after defeating holders Heathens in a final that ended 19–8 Nelson Mandela Stadium.

The victory marks Pirates’ first title since 2018 and only their third in history, having first lifted the trophy in 2007.

Heathens got off to a strong start, with Norbert Okeny crossing early to put five points on the board, though the conversion drifted wide.

Pirates responded with a penalty before grounding a converted try to take a 10–5 lead into the break.

The second half remained tightly contested, with both teams exchanging penalties as Pirates held a narrow 13–8 advantage.

Heathens pushed for a comeback, particularly motivated by the occasion, which marked Michael Wokorach’s final match as captain, but Pirates’ defensive discipline proved decisive.

Two additional penalties stretched Pirates’ lead and sealed the championship, ending Heathens’ hopes of extending their record as the most successful club in the competition’s history.
