Makunga upset Shamberere to win the Men’s 1M prize as Western Spears dominated the Women’s category at the Mumias Sports Complex.
In the first finals which featured the Women’s category saw the Western Spears managing a 24-05 win over hosts Mumias women to get the 1M Grand Prize award courtesy of Betika through their Betika na Community program.

Spears were first to draw blood after Brenda Ogembo penetrated through the Mumias defense to take the lead 07-00 after Edith Nariaka’s successful conversion as the teams proceeded to the half time break.
In the second half, Edith Nariaka stretched the Spears lead 14-00 after she managed to convert her own try.
Mitchell Alivitsa took to heel for the Mumias Women to secure their first try as the scoreboard changed 14-05 after a missed conversion.
Spears, determined to win the game, extended their dominance with Naliaka managing her second try to stretch their lead 19-05 after a wide conversion.
Nariaka went for her hattrick to seal the game 24-05 after a successful conversion.

Makunga vs Shamberere
In the men’s finals, Makunga secured a 19-05 win over Shamberere in a rather tight match.
Makunga, displaying their dominance, maintained the ball possession before Maxwell Bush found his way through the Shamberere defense to score.
Cyprian Ombaso managed to bag the extra two points after a successful conversion to break the tie 07-00 before the halftime whistle.
In the second half, Ramadhan Abdala managed to force his way past the Shamberere defenders to score the second try and stretch their lead 14-00 after a successful conversion.
In the progression of the highly contact game, Divon Okoth managed to break through the Shamberere defense and secure a try to tally the score 19-00.
In the dying minutes of the game, Ivan Mwavale went in for Shamberere to fight through the Makunga defense to secure their only try in the far left corner and change the scores 19-05 before the final whistle.
In the awarding, the most valuable player award for the women’s category was taken by Edith Nariaka while Cyprian Ombaso scooped the men’s category MVP award.
The runners up will get half a million while third place sides will get 250,000.
