Uganda U20 rugby team managed to avoid relegation from the Barthes Trophy after defeating Madagascar 21-17 in the seventh place playoffs on Sunday at Nyayo Stadium.
Although finishing in seventh place is a drop for Uganda, they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they are safe from relegation.
On the other hand, Madagascar will now have to go through the Repechage in order to chase promotion.
Madagascar had landed two tries in the first half and converted one, giving them a 12-5 lead over Uganda’s unconverted try.
However, Uganda managed to turn things around in the second half, adding 16 more points while Madagascar could only manage a five-pointer.
With this win, the Ugandan side can now shift their focus to the 2024 U20 Barthes Trophy, hoping to improve their performance and achieve better results in the future.
