Varsity League: Big wins for Cooperative, CUEA, TUM and UoN

The Cooperative University of Kenya were the biggest winners of the day after thrashing the Multimedia University students 46-5 in the Varsity League matches played on Saturday at Catholic University Grounds.

Ten minutes after kick-off, scrumhalf Allan Miyoma went over the whitewash for the first try of the play which went unconverted. The Farus managed to stretch their lead with a try from Darwin with a wide conversion making them to lead 10-0.

Minutes before halftime the MMU Hawks got their first and only try of the game with a wide conversion making the scores to be 10-5 at halftime.

In the second half cooperative managed to score six tries with three successful conversions making the final score to be 46-5.

Host Catholic Monks too good 

Hosts CUEA closed out the day with a huge scoreline thrashing the Saints from Maseno 30-18 in a thrilling match. Maseno took the lead in the opening minutes of the game with a try, successfully converted for 7-0.

The monks managed to narrow their lead with two penalty conversions through Sammy Omollo. The game went into halftime with Maseno leading 15-14.

In the second half of the game the monks managed to punish Maseno through penalties and also managed to score two tries with successful conversions making them the winners.

TUM fine run

In the other matches, TUM marines crashed the championship side Kabarak University 31-11 with Hillary Meshack bagging a hattrick and successfully converted two tries, Brighton Omondi scored two tries in the match.

On the other hand, the University of Nairobi whipped the Meru-based students 45-22 in the opener. The machines needed the win to keep their quarter-finals hopes alive after falling to the marines in the previous week.

The 10-week league will be played across different universities in the country and will also create awareness of social issues, such as mental health and gender inequality.
