In another disappointing turn of events, Kenya 7s have been knocked out of the Hong Kong 7s tournament.
The team failed to secure a single win throughout the competition, losing to New Zealand, South Africa, and Ireland in the group stage.
Kenya 7s beaten by Hong Kong
Their final game against Hong Kong in the 13th place playoff ended in a 19-10 loss, with Alvin Otieno scoring Kenya’s only try in the first half.
Despite his efforts, Seb Brien score for Hong Kong in the first and second half while Russell Webb added a try that put the game beyond Kenya. Jeff Oluoch landed Kenya’s consolation, but it was not enough to secure a win.
Prior to this, Shujaa suffered a 26-12 defeat in the ninth place quarterfinals against Samoa. The Samoan team dominated the match, scoring four tries from Tuna Tuitama, Paul Scanlan, and Faafoi Falaniko.
Kenya’s Alvin Otieno and George Ooro Angeyo managed to score two tries in response, but it was not enough to catch up with Samoa’s lead.
Next up for Kenya 7s
Shujaa will now shift their focus to the upcoming Singapore 7s tournament, where they will be looking to redeem themselves after their poor performance in Hong Kong.
The team will need to regroup and come back stronger if they hope to make an impact in the Singapore tournament.
