Two players have been suspended following disciplinary reviews of incidents that occurred on Saturday, August 1, during the ongoing Rujumba 7s, the second leg of the 2026 Uganda Rugby 7s Series at King’s Park Arena.

Heathens playmaker Aaron Ofoyrwoth received a 10-match suspension after a post-match citing upgraded a yellow card he was shown during Heathens’ Round Three pool clash against hosts Black Pirates to a red-card offence.

Kampani Eagles’ Araptai Willy was also handed a four-match ban after receiving a straight red card for a dangerous tackle in his side’s Round One match against Heathens.

In a disciplinary update, Uganda Rugby said “In the 3rd minute of the pool match, Heathens player Aaron Ofoyrwoth was shown a yellow card for a high tackle on Pirates’ Conrad Wanyama.

Following a post-match citing review, the incident was deemed to meet the red card threshold and referred to the Judicial Committee, which subsequently imposed a 10-week ban, equivalent to 10 matches in Sevens.

The suspension is a major blow for Heathens, with Ofoyrwoth having been a key figure in the club’s title challenge, playmaker had featured in Heathens’ opening 24-0 victory over Kampani Eagles before the incident against Black Pirates later on Saturday.

Uganda Rugby also confirmed Willy’s sanction, saying “Following a disciplinary review of the Eagles vs Heathens RFC match, Eagles player Araptai Willy was shown a direct red card for a dangerous tackle on a Heathens opponent. After a Judicial Hearing and review of the evidence, the committee imposed a four-match suspension, effective immediately, in line with the tournament’s disciplinary regulations.”

Following the ruling, Ofoyrwoth apologised to Black Pirates, Heathens supporters and Conrad Wanyama in a post on his social media account.

“To all the Pirates players and fans am sorry, it wasn’t intentional at all. To my @HeathensFanzone and players, I wish you all the best tomorrow. @ConradWanyama wishing you a very fast and smooth recovery my good sir.”

The suspension rules Ofoyrwoth out of the remainder of the Rujumba 7s and the subsequent Kyadondo 7s, with the playmaker expected to return later in the Uganda Rugby 7s Series.
