JKUAT Cougars capped off a remarkable season by clinching the Mwamba Cup with a dominant 60-12 victory over Mombasa RFC at RFUEA Grounds.
The Cougars came into the match riding high after earning promotion to the Kenya Cup, having finished second in the KRU Championship. After narrowly missing out on the Championship title following their defeat to Mwamba RFC in the final, JKUAT were determined to end their campaign with silverware.
Mombasa RFC, meanwhile, had endured a mixed season and were equally eager to finish on a positive note. However, they found themselves overwhelmed by a ruthless Cougars side that raced into an early lead and never looked back.
JKUAT settled quickly into the contest and needed just 15 minutes to surge into a commanding 29-0 lead.
The first try arrived in the opening minute when Clyde Nyayota dived over from the base of an eight-man pick. Smith Muhoya added the conversion for a 7-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Elias Imani powered over from a rolling maul, with Muhoya once again adding the extras to stretch the advantage to 14-0.
The Cougars continued to pile on the pressure and Davies Masinga crossed over for their third try of the afternoon to make it 19-0.
JKUAT then exploited an overlap out wide, with Shaddy Odhiambo finishing off the move to push the score to 24-0.

A beautiful exchange of passes created another opening as the Cougars crossed for their fifth try to establish a 29-0 cushion before Mombasa finally got on the scoreboard.
Jeff Ojuak then grabbed back-to-back tries as JKUAT took complete control of the encounter, extending their lead to 39-5.
The second half began in similar fashion, with Powell Otolo powering over from a lineout move to secure another try for the Cougars.
Tighthead prop Isaac Wetulo then bulldozed his way over near the posts, with the successful conversion taking the score to 53-5.
Mombasa managed to respond with an unconverted try, but there was little stopping the rampant Cougars. Imani completed his brace later in the half as JKUAT moved past the 60-point mark and sealed an emphatic victory.
The win provides the perfect ending to an impressive campaign for JKUAT, who will now shift their focus to life in the Kenya Cup following a season that delivered both promotion and silverware.
