Kenya Lionesses wrapped up their SVNS 2 campaign in Montevideo with a 19-12 defeat to Brazil women’s national rugby sevens team, finishing bottom of the standings after the final round of matches played at the Estadio Charrúa on Sunday.
Brazil made a fast start, with Bianca Silva crossing over early before Maysa Fernandes added the conversion inside the opening two minutes for a 7-0 lead.
Kenya responded through Charity Nilla Otengo, who touched down for a well-worked try that was successfully converted to level the scores at 7-7.
The South Americans regained control when Yasmim Soares powered over for a converted try, restoring a 14-7 advantage. Kenya stayed within touching distance thanks to speedster Janet Okelo, who dotted down to narrow the gap to 14-12 in a tightly contested encounter.

However, Silva returned to seal the win for Brazil, grabbing her second try of the match late in the second half to push the score to 19-12 and secure victory for her side.
The defeat condemned the Kenya women’s national rugby sevens team to a last-place finish, managing just five points from five matches in the tournament. Their only win came against Argentina women’s national rugby sevens team, while the rest of their campaign ended in defeats.
