Menengai Oilers extended their dominance in the Nakuru Derby to six straight victories after brushing aside Nakuru RFC 48-10 in a Kenya Cup clash played at the Nakuru ASK Grounds on Saturday.

The Oilers came into the encounter boasting an unblemished home record against Nakuru RFC at the Refinery, a venue they have turned into a fortress whenever the derby comes around. This was the fourth time Oilers were hosting the Nakuru Derby at home, and they duly made it four wins from four to underline their superiority in the rivalry.

Nakuru RFC struck first and briefly stunned the hosts when Ike Amaya crossed over after just three minutes of play, with Josephat Karanja adding the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Oilers responded swiftly, with Amos Obae haunting his former side as he went over to pull one back for the hosts. The momentum firmly swung Oilers’ way moments later when Abutwalib Wesonga dotted down, with Timothy Omela converting to hand Oilers the lead.

Samuel Were then extended the advantage in the 29th minute with another well-worked try, once again converted by Omela as Oilers began to assert control. Just before the break, Beldad Ogeta added to the tally, and Omela’s conversion sent the hosts into halftime with a commanding 26-7 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Ogeta continuing his fine outing by crossing the whitewash to stretch Oilers’ advantage further. Substitute Alvin Khavoli then announced his presence with a try off the bench before Ogeta completed a deserved hat-trick, with Wesonga stepping up to convert.

Khavoli later grabbed his second try of the afternoon to cap a dominant Oilers performance, while Nakuru’s only response in the second half came through a Javan Otieno penalty.
