Ex-USIU, Kabras centre Eliud Mulakoli retires

Former USIU and Kabras RFC centre Eliud Mulakoli Lumbasi has officially announced his retirement from rugby.

Lumbasi who embraced rugby while at Malava boys high school and went on to play for various clubs in the country and also the national team.

In a long message on his social media accounts to his fans he said he was happy to have chosen rugby as a sport which according to him has done a lot which he is grateful.

“I just want to firstly thank God for blessing me with such an amazing career that seemed short but unfolded beyond my dreams. Rugby has Changed my life for the better and I will forever be grateful for what this game did for me. It will take awhile for all this to sink in, but I’m so fortune to have been able to play for some of the best clubs around the country and for the Nation too,” reads part of the message.

After school at Malava boys Mulakoli joined Kabras Rfc to kickstart his Rugby career where he played before landing a scholarship at the USIU University.

He has also played for Kenya Harlequins RFC and Mombasa RFC which was his latest club before retirement.

He also played in the national team  featuring in the team that played in the Victoria cup action against Zambia at the RFUEA Grounds August 2019.

He is also thankful  every person who played part in making his career a success ranging from the coaches,family among others.

“Thank you to my family for supporting me and believing in me from day 1 and for giving me tough love and honesty when I needed it most despite Mom being against me Playing this sport.
A big thank you to all the staff members and fans at all the teams I have been involved in over the years. Thank you to all Coaches, Managers, Medical staff and the the players have met along the way that have made life long friendships with. You have all shaped me into the man I am today and have played an important part in my journey along the way. Words can’t describe how thankful I am to have been part of some diverse rugby communities across the country and outside that have become like family to me,” Mulakoli stated.

As he gets into the next chapter of his life away from playing Rugby he would like to spend most of the time with his family

“I look forward to my next chapter but no more sore body on a Sunday and as much family time as I can get with my people”he finalized.
