Kisumu RFC have made significant strides to strengthen their squad ahead of the new year, securing five loan signings from Kabras RFC.
The club unveiled the new players this Saturday, signalling a determined push to improve their fortunes in the Kenya Cup.
Kisumu RFC additions
The most notable addition is Gibson Perez, a 2022 Enterprise Cup winner and front rower.
Perez previously played for MMUST Rugby before rejoining Kabras and was pivotal in helping the students qualify for the Kenya Cup.
He now joins Kisumu RFC with hopes of contributing to their success in the second half of the season.
Also making the move to Kisumu is Warren Kamadi, a scrum-half who will spend another year at the club.
Kamadi was part of the loanees that played a key role in Kisumu’s survival last season and will be eager to build on his previous experience having featured for Kabras RFC in the National 7s Circuit.
In addition to the experienced players, Kisumu RFC have secured promising young talents Branton Lusisa and Darrell Omondi from Kabras on a loan deal.
Both players were instrumental in Koyonzo High School’s triumph in the 2023 East African and National 7s Circuit titles.

Their move to Kisumu provides them with the chance to gain valuable Kenya Cup experience after having previously played in the Eric Shirley Shield with Kabras RFC.
Duncan Shigali, who has been with Kabras RFC, is also set to spend the remainder of the season at Kisumu RFC on loan. Shigali’s addition further strengthens the team’s depth as they aim to climb the league standings.
Habil Malika, a former Kisumu RFC player who had previously announced his exit after one season, will return to the club. His return is seen as a significant boost to Kisumu’s midfield pack.
Kisumu RFC earlier signings
Kisumu RFC had earlier confirmed the arrival of Felix Omondi, a prop from Nakuru RFC who joins on loan, and David Williams, a National 7s Circuit winner who returns after a loan spell at Kenya Harlequin. He also featured for Morans in the Safari 7s.
With these new signings, Kisumu RFC are hoping to turn around their fortunes after struggling at the bottom of the standings.
The club is hopeful that the fresh additions will bring the experience and talent needed to help them climb the Kenya Cup table and avoid relegation.
