As the 2023/24 Kenya Rugby Union Kenya Cup season looms, Mwamba RFC 7s captain, Eliakim Kichoi, has announced a temporary departure from rugby.
Kichoi, a key figure in Mwamba’s lineup over the years, expressed his best wishes for the team as they gear up for the 2023/24 Kenya Cup campaign.
Eliakim Kichoi decision
In an exclusive interview with The Scrummage Africa, Kichoi shed light on the decision to take a break from rugby. Having actively participated in both the 2022/23 Kenya Cup season and the 2023 National Sevens circuit, he acknowledged the toll it had taken on him while admitting the year has been physically demanding.
Kichoi noted that the hiatus would provide him with the necessary time to address personal matters and recharge both physically and mentally.
“It’s been a heavy year, playing in both the Kenya Cup and the national sevens circuit. The break is important to sort out personal stuff, and I’ll be back before you even realize it,” kichoi stated.
