Kenya 7s showcased a formidable performance at the Safari 7s, securing a convincing 36-0 victory against SA All-Stars in their match at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday.
While Shujaa were targeting an impressive start, SA All Stars aimed to recover from a previous 35-0 loss to Uganda.
Kenya 7s start
Having entered the tournament following a strong showing in Africa Men’s 7s, Shujaa was determined to defend the Safari 7s title they claimed in 2021. Patrick Odongo, the top scorer in the African Men’s 7s, set the tone by impressively scoring the opening try.
The team expanded their lead as the ball was skillfully moved to the right, leading to forward Kevin Wekesa crossing over for a try, although Tony Omondi missed the conversion.
Shujaa co-captain Vincent Onyala burst through the defence in the midfield, racing for a centre post try and securing a 19-0 lead.

Odongo continued to shine, scoring his second try after receiving a pass from Wekesa, and Nygel Amaista successfully converted the centre post try.
Brian Mutugi, coming off the bench, made a significant impact, cutting in through the opposition’s defence and reaching the try-line, contributing to Shujaa’s commanding 31-0 lead.
Kenya 7s stop Uganda
Captain Onyala showcased his skills with a break on the left, sealing the match with the final try. In their second win, Shujaa defeated Uganda 17-5, with Nygel Amaitsa, Vincent Onyala, and John Okoth scoring tries that halted Uganda’s winning streak in the competition.
Uganda had previously won against SA All Stars and Red Wailers, defeating the latter 32-5. Kenya Morans also secured their second win, defeating Samurai 14-12. Although Samurai took the initial lead with a try, Kenya Morans responded with a try by Chrissant Ojwang, taking the lead before Benson Salem extended it with a conversion and later with another converted try.
Despite conceding a late try, Morans held on to secure the victory. The strong performances of both Shujaa and Kenya Morans highlighted their prowess in the Safari 7s competition.
