Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced the highly anticipated return of the Victoria Cup and Elgon Cup to the rugby calendar.
The fixtures released by URU reveal that Uganda, Zambia, and Kenya are set to feature in the Cup, which is scheduled to take place at Kings Park Arena and Kyadondo. Unlike the 2019 edition, the 2023 competition will feature a one-off face-off format with Zimbabwe Sables set to miss.
2023 Victoria Cup fixtures
The Kenya Simbas will make their way to Kampala, with their arrival set for October 30, and they will kick off their campaign against Zambia at Kyadondo on November 1.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes will commence their journey by facing Zambia at King’s Park Arena in Bweyogerere on 28 October.
A key highlight in the schedule is the showdown between the Simbas and the Uganda Cranes, set for November 5 at King’s Park Arena. This match will also serve as the first leg of the Elgon Cup.

The Simbas will subsequently travel back for the Elgon Cup return leg, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
The return of the Victoria Cup is particularly exciting as it marks its comeback after a hiatus since 2019. In the 2019 edition, Zimbabwe emerged as the champions, securing 23 points in six matches, with their sole loss against Kenya Simbas in Nakuru.
The Simbas finished as runners-up on the points table with 21 points, having suffered losses to Uganda and Zimbabwe in away matches.
Similarly, the Elgon Cup will be making its long-awaited return to the rugby scene after the 2019 edition.
