Dagoretti Bulldogs Rugby Club are mourning the death of forward John Meraba who died on 31 December 2022.
The club reported that the prop, who was also a University of Nairobi student, died in a boat accident at Port Victoria in Bundalangi.

“It is with much sadness that we announce the demise of one of us, John Meraba a U.O.N Kikuyu campus student, which occured on the 31st of 2022 at Port Victoria in Budalangi, during the boat tragedy. Further communication will be relayed. REST IN POWER PROP MATATA,” reads a statement by the Club.

Following their death, the Kenya Rugby Union was among the first to extend condolences to the club, friends, and family.
The union statement reads: “We join Dagoretti Bulldogs Rugby Club in mourning the demise of their player, John Meraba, following a boat accident in Port Victoria, Budalangi on 31st December 2022. Our condolences to his family, team mates and friends.”
