Kabras RFC new signing David Williams has said helping the sugar men retain the Kenya Cup trophy they won last season, tops the list of his main objectives ahead of his new season with the Kakamega-based club.
Williams, a former Daystar Rugby player was instrumental in their run to Championship qualification last season, his exemplary performances catching the eye of Kabras’ technical bench who moved for his signature ahead of the 2022-23 Kenya Cup season.
William’s first two starts
The fullback has started two of Kabras’ preseason games. His debut came in the Victoria Cup quarterfinal tie against Mbale RFC on October 29 where he managed to set up two tries, and his second outing was their narrow 14-10 semifinal win against Kisumu the following weekend.

While he acknowledges the tough challenge ahead, he insists his hard work and the never-give-up mentality of the club will help him realize his dream.
“I am taking extra training sessions and my skills have improved. It is a big club and therefore competition is high. My main objective is to win Kenya Cup with Kabras and later earn a call up the national team,” he said.
Williams who has also represented Kenya in the U-20 stage describes his stay at Kakamega as “fun” and stated he has learnt a lot in his first days with defending champions.
“It is a good feeling to play for a club like Kabras. The bonding with fellow players has been smooth and my interaction with such international players and coaches has upped my game and skills,” he said.

Kabras face MMUST in the Victoria Cup on Saturday 13 at Kakamega Showground. They begin their Kenya Cup campaign with newbies Catholic Monks on Saturday 26 November at the same ground.
