Nanyuki Boys pip Menengai to win Rift Valley Region 7s

Nanyuki Boys High School have won the Rift Valley Region Schools Rugby 7s title after defeating Menengai High School 3-0 in post-match drop kicks in a pulsating final played at Nakuru High School on Saturday.

The match had to be decided by penalty drop kicks after a 7-7 draw in regular time and a stalemate in extra-time/sudden death.

The sides could not score on their first attempts of the kicks during the shootouts. Nanyuki then scored one penalty kick in the sudden death of the kicking session to win the game.

Set for Nationals

Both Nanyuki High School and Menengai High have booked a place in the Nationals of the competition scheduled for Nakuru High School from 7 September 2022.

Nanyuki who have former Kakamega High School Head and rugby patron Oliver Minishi as the principal eliminated St Anthony following a 24-7 win at the quarterfinal stage and beat Kabianga 21-0 in the semis to get to the final of the competition.

Menengai, on the other hand, needed extra time to knockout Chepkorniswo after a 14-14 tie after the regular time of their quarterfinal. Two unconverted tries were enough for the side to beat Ngong Township 10-0 in the semis.

Ngong Township settled for the third spot after defeating Kabianga in the third-place playoffs. The two sides are expected to join Nanyuki and Menengai in the Nationals.

Western Region Champions Koyonzo and runners-up Butula, Ofafa Jericho High School and Upper Hill School from Nairobi and St Mary’s Yala and Nduru from Nyanza have booked places in the Nationals.
