South Coast Pirates have confirmed the departure of Ugandan utility back Robin Odrua Philip after a single season with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship side.

Odrua joined the Diani-based club in November 2025 from Uganda’s Mongers Rugby Club and quickly established himself as a key member of the Pirates squad during the 2025/26 campaign.

Capable of playing on either wing or at fullback, the versatile back featured prominently as South Coast Pirates mounted a strong push for promotion to the Kenya Cup.

However, their campaign came to an end at the playoff stage, denying the club a return to the top flight.

Announcing his departure, the club paid tribute to the Ugandan international for his contribution throughout the season.

“One of the warriors who proudly carried the badge this season,” the club said in a statement.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

“Thank you, Robin Odrua, for your commitment, passion and dedication every time you stepped onto the field for South Coast Pirates. Wishing you nothing but success in the next chapter of your journey. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate.”

Odrua’s exit marks the beginning of what is expected to be a busy off-season for South Coast Pirates as they prepare for another bid to secure promotion to the Kenya Cup.

The 26-year-old leaves having earned admiration from the Pirates faithful for his work rate, versatility and commitment during his time at the club. His next destination is yet to be announced.
