Strathmore Leos registered their third straight win after edging Nakuru RFC 27-20 in a closely contested Kenya Cup clash at Nakuru Athletic Club to move to 31 points and maintain fourth place on the standings.

For Nakuru RFC, the defeat brought their two-match winning run to an end, though they managed to salvage a losing bonus point from the encounter.

Strathmore Leos start

The visitors made a bright start and went into the halftime break with the lead. Raymond Chacha and Stanislous Shikoli crossed the whitewash for Strathmore Leos in the opening half, while Nakuru RFC relied on the boot of Javan Otieno, who slotted two penalties to keep the hosts within touching distance as the teams headed to the break with the Leos leading 10-6.

Nakuru RFC came out stronger in the second half and managed to swing the momentum in their favour. Edwin Anunda dotted down for a try which Otieno successfully converted before Chrisant Ojwang added another try, with Otieno once again adding the extras to hand the hosts a 20-10 lead over the varsity side.

The Leos then completed a remarkable comeback with Stanislous Shikoli grabbing his second try of the match before Collins Maina sealed the victory with another try, ensuring the Nairobi-based side walked away with a 27-20 win.

The result marked Nakuru RFC’s fourth home defeat of the season at Nakuru Athletic Club.
