Kisii RFC marked their return to the KRU Championship after six years in style, beating former Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC in Gusii.
New coach Nelvin Lumiti was keen to recreate the magic of February 2018, when Kisii famously defeated Mwamba 18-12 in the Kenya Cup.
This weekend, he did exactly that, delivering yet another memorable win over Kulabu.
Clifford Nyabwari and Laystone Onduko crossed the whitewash for Kisii, with Onduko adding 12 points off the boot to seal a 22-19 victory.
Mwamba managed three tries and left with a losing bonus point, but it was Kisii’s resilience, game management, and home support that defined the afternoon.
Aside from Kisii seeing off log leaders Mwamba, the rest of Matchday 2 produced surprises and strong statements across the day..
Newcomers NYS delivered one of the biggest results of the weekend, edging Homeboyz 13-9 at RFUEA Grounds.
