Menengai Oilers kicked off their Kenya Cup campaign in style, putting 76-16 past newcomers Daystar Falcons in a one-sided encounter played at the Nakuru ASK Showground.
The match marked the first-ever Kenya Cup meeting between the two sides, though they had previously clashed in the 2024 Enterprise Cup where Daystar suffered an 80-17 defeat.
Oilers got off to a flying start as Fortune Aturo crossed for two successive tries, one converted, to hand them a 12-0 lead. Captain Ibrahim Ayoo then added his name to the scoresheet, with Abutwalib Wesonga converting for a 19-0 advantage.
Daystar pulled back three points through Eddy Wambugu, but Oilers responded immediately as Daniel Kipchirchir dotted down to stretch the lead. Elkeans Musonye and debutant Philip Okeyo each scored as the hosts closed the first half with a commanding 38-3 scoreline.

Daystar Falcons returned with more purpose in the second half, with Nathan Tsindoli scoring a converted try to take their tally to 13 points.
Ayoo extended Oilers’ lead with his second try before the students added another penalty for 16 points.
Menengai Oilers then took full control once again. Clarkson Keegan and Alvin Khavoli both crossed the whitewash, with Wesonga converting the tries. A yellow card to Daystar further opened the floodgates as Wesonga, Khavoli, and Achacha added more points to complete the emphatic victory.
At the Racecourse, Nondies claimed a 36-12 win over Kisumu RFC, avenging last season’s narrow 17-14 loss.
