Former Kenya Cup champions KCB Rugby kicked off their season in devastating fashion, brushing aside Impala RFC 87-5 at the KCB Sports Club.
The result mirrored last season’s opener, where KCB overpowered South Coast Pirates 88-5. The Bankers have dominated this fixture in the post-Covid era, winning the previous four encounters by margins of more than 40 points.
KCB Rugby ruthless
KCB were ruthless from the onset, racking up 47 points in the first half and adding 40 more after the break.
Captain Felix Ojoo opened the scoring with a converted try for a 7-0 lead. Brian Wahinya added a second, also converted, before Impala pulled one back to cut the deficit to 14-5.
Ojoo returned to the scoresheet with his second try of the afternoon, stretching the lead to 21-5. A yellow card to Brian Ingati proved costly for Impala as KCB capitalized, piling on more points to push the tally into the 40s.

Fidel Maina scored next, with the conversion sailing through, before debutant Joseph Wanjala bagged two quick tries, both converted by Wahinya. Impala’s discipline issues worsened when scrum-half Patrick Muli was sent to the sin bin, and Festus Shiasi closed the half with another try for a commanding lead.
In the second half, wingers Mike Wekesa and Floyd Wabwire dotted down for converted tries. Substitute Nelson Nyandat also crossed the whitewash before Wekesa completed his brace.
Vincent Onyala added his name to the scoresheet, and debutant Branton Lusisa came off the bench to score the final try, sealing a comprehensive win that puts KCB at the top of the standings.
In the early kick-off, Kenya Harlequin edged Nakuru RFC 23-18. Quins led 17-15 at halftime and added six points after the break in a cagey second half that produced just nine points in total.
