Fiji came from behind to defeat Kenya 7s (Shujaa) 21-12, ending the latter’s impressive run at the 2025 Singapore 7s in a thrilling final played at the Singapore National Stadium.
Despite their fate being sealed last weekend—with a relegation playoff looming in May—Shujaa were determined to end the season on a high.
Kenya 7s display
The East Africans impressed throughout the tournament, registering key wins over Ireland and France in the group stages and edging out Spain 12-5 in the semifinals. Their run set up a nostalgic rematch of the 2016 final, which Shujaa famously won 30-7.
Fiji were also in red-hot form, having knocked out World 7s Series champions Argentina in a high-scoring 33-24 semifinal clash.
The final began on a tight note. Fiji’s Sevuloni Mocenacagi received a yellow card, and Kenya capitalized. After regaining possession from a knock-on, Nygel Amaitsa kicked and raced through to score just before halftime, giving Shujaa a 7-0 lead.
In the second half, Fiji responded with renewed energy. Viwa Naduvalo crossed over for a converted try to level the match at 7-7. He then struck again off a scrum, slicing through the defense to score under the posts, handing Fiji a 14-7 advantage.

Rauto Vakadranu extended the lead to 21-7 with a blistering run down the left flank. Kenya managed a late consolation when Jone Kubu, facing his country of birth, linked up with William Mwanji, who touched down to reduce the deficit to 21-12.
Despite the spirited display, Shujaa finished ninth overall in the World 7s Series standings and will now shift their focus to the relegation/promotion playoffs in Los Angeles next month.
