Vihiga High School have etched their name in history by claiming their first-ever Western Region 15s title after edging out St Peter’s Mumias 3-0 in a tense final held in Busia.

A crucial three-pointer from Peter Shiundu proved to be the difference, as Vihiga went unbeaten throughout the competition, completing a double over St Peter’s and securing their first-ever ticket to the National 15s championship.

Head coach Abubakar Abdallah lauded his team’s resilience and mental fortitude, acknowledging the valuable lessons learned from the hard-fought encounter.

“It was a very tough final. Resilience and mental strength won us the match. St. Peter’s were a worthy opponent. We have picked a few lessons from the match as we prepare for the National competition,” Abdallah told Scrummage Africa.

This achievement comes on the back of Vihiga’s impressive performance in the shorter format of the game, where they clinched the East African 7s title.

The final was a rematch of the group-stage clash, where Vihiga had previously triumphed 15-8.

They now join fellow debutants Bwake in the National competition, alongside Kisii School, who completed a three-peat in the Nyanza Region, and Mang’u High School, who have also booked their spot.
