Nakuru RFC beat Impala RFC to end season on high

Nakuru RFC made it four out of four in the final four game games of the season to end the season on a high beating Impala 21-17.

With relegation a bother for both teams, the game was set for a frantic start as both teams looked for a quick start.

Nakuru RFC smooth start

Nakuru who were looking smooth early on would score first from the back of the scrum through Edwin Anunda after bullying Impala in the eighthman contest on the five meter line. Fredrick Odongo was succesfull from the boot to make it 7-0 early on.

Impala would hit back with a seven pointer of their own, the referee calling a penalty try after deeming Israel Soi was tackled above the legal height on the the verge of scoring. Gideon Makumi slotted in a penalty to make it 10-7 as the first stanza wore on.

An ascending Impala would keep Wanyore on the backfoot, breaking on the outside through Victor Imela who was returning from the sin bin before Milton Omondi burged over the white chalk for the home team’s second try. Gideon Makumi split the uprights for a 17-7 lead.

Both sides would lose promising possesion on the on the go forward , impeding any scoring chances as the referee brought an end to the first half, scores 17-7.

Nakuru would miss a chance from the penalty, Philip Okeyo missing his attempt to cut Wanyore’s deficit early in the first half.

Nakuru would camp in Impala’s five meter line for extended periods but the Gazelles defence would hold fast.

Anunda try

Continued knocking would finally give forth, Edwin Anunda diving over the whitewash near the uprights, Macharia adding the extra twos to make it a three point game.

The visitors’ resurgence would continue and it would not take long before Barry Opondo would produce a scintillating run, slicing through a pile of defenders to touch down near the corner.

Macharia’s conversion from out wide succesful for Nakuru to take a 21-17 lead.

This would be the last score of the day as fans held their breath in anticipation of the relegation announcement.
