Botswana endured a tough return to international rugby as they suffered a crushing 64-0 loss to hosts Morocco in the opening match of the 2024 Rugby Africa Cup Repechage B Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco.

Playing at the Club Olympique Casablancais, the Atlas Lions ran in 11 tries, powered by a dominant forward pack that set the platform for their backs to exploit gaps and pile on the points.

The result was a harsh reality check for Botswana, nicknamed the Vultures, who were making their first appearance in Test rugby since 2018. Morocco’s clinical performance underscored their intent as Pool B contenders in the qualifiers for the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, set to be held in Kampala, Uganda.

In the second match of the day, Madagascar overcame a slow start to secure an emphatic 33-7 victory over Cameroon, booking their place in the tournament final.
