French-based players dominate Senegal squad for 2024 Rugby Africa Cup

Senegal’s rugby team has been unveiled ahead of the first phase of the Rugby Africa Cup scheduled from July 18 to 29 at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda.

Union St Denis-Drancy in France have Ousmane Ndiaye, Kaba Cissé, Lamine Sylla, Demba Kane, and Assane Ndiaye included in the squad.

Senegal based players

Asfa from Senegal has also contributed five players: Mamadou Sarr, Abdou Lom, Abou Sy, Insa Thior, and Ameth Sall.

Cusset, which is also in France, has contributed three players: Babacar Ba, Alassane Sagna, and Cheikh Sanha.

La Rochelle (France)’s Mamadou Cissé has also been included among 12 other French-based players, bringing the total to 20 players who ply their trade in France.

This tournament will feature the eight best teams in Africa: Namibia, Kenya, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Burkina Faso.

At the end of the tournament, the team ranked eighth will be eliminated from the final phase of the 2025 CAN, which qualifies for the 2025 World Cup.


The Senegalese national team will play its first qualifying match against Kenya on July 20 at 10:00 AM GMT. The Senegalese delegation will fly to Uganda on July 16.
