Menengai Oilers put an end to KCB Rugby’s nine-match winning streak in the Kenya Cup, securing a 21-7 victory at Nakuru Ask Showground.
Despite KCB Rugby entering the match with nine consecutive wins and already securing a spot in the semis, they were determined to avoid any slip-ups, especially after missing a bonus point in their previous match in Nakuru.
Menengai Oilers target
On the other hand, the Oilers, eager to secure the third spot, aimed to bounce back from a 47-3 defeat against Kabras in Kakamega.
Oilers started strongly, with back-rower Jadah Abdon scoring a try under the posts, converted by Abutwalib Wesonga, giving them a 7-0 lead.
Lionel Ajeliti’s try and conversion levelled the score for KCB, but that was their only point of the match.

Wesonga added a penalty, giving the Oilers a 10-7 lead at halftime. In the second half, Wesonga added another penalty, extending the Oilers’ lead to 13-7.
He then secured a drop goal, further increasing the lead to 16-7. Oilers sealed their victory with lock Clinton Odhiambo scoring their second and final try.

This victory marks only the second time the Oilers have defeated KCB Rugby.
