Chebisaas emerged victorious in the inaugural Wareng’ 7s tournament, held at Wareng High School, defeating St. Patrick’s Iten with a narrow margin of 14-10 in the thrilling final match.
The tournament, which unfolded over the weekend, showcased Chebisaas’ dominance as they overcame formidable opponents, including the term 1 Rift Valley region finalists.
Wareng 7s
Robinson Kiplagat, the tournament coordinator and coach of Wareng’ High School, expressed his satisfaction with the successful event.
He highlighted the valuable experience gained by the participating teams, particularly Wareng’ High School, composed mainly of form 2 students and a few form 3s.
Despite their youth, Wareng’ held their ground against established regional teams like Kapsabet Boys and St. Patrick’s Iten, managing a commendable performance against the eventual champions, Chebisaas, with a score of 11-5 during the preliminary game.
“As the host of this inaugural tournament, it’s a significant milestone for us. We aspire to change the narrative here in Eldoret and become a feeder school to the newly established P61 and Eldoret RFC, the main clubs in the area,” remarked Kiplagat.

Looking ahead to future editions, Kiplagat issued a call to potential sponsors, expressing the school’s desire to secure support for their upcoming tournaments.
“We would greatly appreciate a sponsor for our second edition,” he concluded.
Chebisaas’ coach, Lawi Kipruto, praised his team’s resilience and determination, particularly in the final match against St. Patrick’s Iten, the defending champions for 15s in the region.
Despite trailing 10-0, Chebisaas staged a remarkable comeback, clinching victory with a final score of 14-10.
Kipruto affirmed the team’s commitment to making a mark in the upcoming 7s season, aiming to assert their presence on the rugby scene after enduring three defeats in county-level finals against Kipsombe.
