Levy Amunga booted 15 points for the Lions as they edged Buffaloes 20-5 to book their ticket for the Rugby Super series final to be held in Nairobi next weekend.

A win for either Buffaloes or Lions was enough to send them to the series finals with both sides earning a win over the Rhinos in their previous encounters.

The Buffaloes, who were fresh from last weekend’s win against Rhinos in Nakuru, were hoping to book a ticket for super series finals in style infront of their home fans.

The Lions went over early on in the game through Derrick Wechulo to lead 5-0. Levy Amunga extended Lions lead with a penalty goal to take the scores to 8-0.

Levy Amunga continued to pile on pressure on the hosts by slotting another penalty goal to give side a comfortable 11-0 lead. Minutes later, Buffaloes landed their first try of the match through Hillary Salano. Conversion attempt went wide as scores read 11-5.

From the break, Buffaloes would rue their indiscipline as Levy Amunga continued to punish them with his boot. The former Blak Blad playmaker added three more penalties to give his side a 20-5 lead as the game approached the final quarter.

With the rains intensifying,  the game was called off due to the risk of lightening. That meant, the Lions who were ahead at the time the game was cancelled, take the win.

The Lions will be seeking to avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of the Cheetahs last weekend in Nakuru when they meet for the Rugby super series finals in Nairobi on Saturday 25/5/2024.
